We've walked around Swaledale a fair bit over the years and Sue's birthday seemed like a good idea to stay somewhere new. Sue found Keld Lodge a while ago and was keen to try it because it was superbly situated for where we wanted to walk, between Keld and Muker with perhaps a couple of other walks thrown in. The afternoon we got there was better than forecast and the first full day (her birthday) was wall to wall sunshine so we had a trip to Reeth to do some walking around familiar trails. The next day was wall to wall rain and because the sun wasn't out it felt a lot colder so we got very wet despite all the layers and proper wet gear. Goodness know how it got through.
We enjoyed the hospitality of Keld Lodge and it was clean, good value for money and big portions of well cooked food. It is usually difficult to get in there because it is really popular with walkers doing the Coast to Coast, the Pennine Way and the Herriot Trail so this was our third attempt at staying there.
